French Atlantic coast is a paradise for summer holidays. Mixture of cliffs and long sand beaches makes those places a marvelous travel destination. This coastline is a favorite place for French people to go on vacations – tourists prefer the south parts of France.
Probably the most famous city here is seaport city La Rochelle. The historical part and the harbor are worth to see. You can see Fort Boyard from the harbor, that was a prison before and now is used for a famous television show with the same name. A bit more in the west is the island Isle of Rhé that is connected to the La Rochelle by the longest bridge in France (2.9 km). The inhabitants call their island “white isle”. It is a popular tourist destination and many celebrities were spotted having their holidays here.
Also a great beach resort place is Royan. It has five wonderful beaches, fishing port and marina. The Department Vendée is located in north of Atlantic coast and has many small unknown bathing resorts and mild climate.
Near the city of Arcachon you can watch natural phenomenon - the biggest sand dune of Europe, Dune of Pyla. This fascinating place is good for kiting and paragliding, because of the strong wind near the sea line.
Bordeaux is a noticeable French city. It is famous for some of the the most popular wines and is seen as one of the culinary cities in France. You can also visit many historical sights here, it is on the UNESCO World Heritage List, go shopping or relax on shore of the river Garonne.
